Featured Artist Program
The York Art Association is pleased to introduce The Featured Artist Program, offering York Art artist members and invited guest artists the opportunity to present small-scale solo exhibitions within our newly renovated galleries. A designated area of approximately 12 linear feet is reserved, with each exhibition planned to run one month. The addition of the Jean Lincoln Gallery (formerly the unrestored “back room”) provides more opportunities and flexibility for exhibitions. Beside solo exhibits, the Exhibition Committee will review proposals for group thematic exhibitions.
The Committee will review proposals and assign dates for each exhibition. Featured Artist’s work will be on the homepage of the York Art website during the tenure of the exhibition. York Art will share images and information on social media, in the email newsletter, and in local media outlets. A brief bio and/or artist statement will be sent to local papers in a press release for the exhibit. York Art members can apply by submitting an application with a $150 fee for participation. Deadline for applications is May 15. The Exhibition Committee will review applications based on the following criteria.

- Completed applications that meet deadlines and all requirements
- Applicants have not been featured as a Featured Artist in the past 3 years
- Consideration is given to first time exhibitors
Note: Not all months may be available for artist member exhibitions as the space may be reserved for an invited guest artist.
Responsibilities of Featured Artist
- Featured Artists must send a high-resolution image of their artwork. This image must be at least 300dpi and will be used on the York Art website, social media, and show promotions. Please send this image file via email to gallerymanager@yorkartassociation.com within ten days of your acceptance email. This image should be one of the pieces that you plan to exhibit and have available for sale.
- Featured Artists must send an Artist Bio and/or Artist Statement within one week of acceptance to gallerymanager@yorkart.org.
- There is a $150 Exhibit Fee to participate. Submit check or cash to York Art Association at 394 York Street, York Harbor, or mail to PO Box 74, York, Maine 03909 within seven days of your acceptance email. The Featured Artist who fails to complete an on-time payment will forfeit their space and the exhibit spot will go to the next artist on the wait list. The exhibit fee is non-refundable three weeks prior to the installation.
- All work must be for sale. With the contract, you must attach a complete List of Works
( title, medium, dimensions and price) and send to gallerymanager@yorkart.org
- Featured Artists are responsible for following all hanging guidelines and installing their work. Featured Artists, together with help from the need to be present to install their artwork on either Monday or Tuesday prior to the exhibition’s opening.
- York Art will provide wall labels with the artist’s name and a label for each piece listed in the List of Works. Additional written and visual materials should be coordinated with the Curating Team.
- Featured Artists must be present at the opening reception and are expected to give a brief artist talk.
- Featured Artists are encouraged to promote their own exhibitions and, when possible, have an active presence in the gallery during their month-long show. Please tag York Art in your on-line promotions.
