Lincoln Perry – Museum Reflections
Having spent a considerable portion of my life in art museums, learning from my betters or just enjoying a cornucopia of beauty and emotion, I thought it appropriate to paint others doing the same. True, some visitors almost run by visual treasures on the walls, or stop only to take a selfie in front of the more famous artworks. But seeing crowds of Chinese tourists lingering in front of Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People, I realized that this lush visualization of rebellion truly fascinated them. Others might actually be motivated to smooch in front of paintings of lovers, or seem vexed by, say, depictions of war or violence. Once I got started on this series of small watercolors I realized I was only using paintings I loved for the genesis of each watercolor, and of course my goal was to make each one as rich and luminous as I could. The two oil paintings use glazes to attempt to measure up to such saturation.
Lincoln Perry is represented by Gallery Les Yeux du Monde, Charlottesville, Virginia
There are 24, unframed small watercolors (9″ x 12″) in the exhibition. D. Pratt Framer of Kittery and Rye has generously matted and framed one as an example. They also have offered to frame additional pieces for $150 each using the same matting and frame as the example. Many thanks to D. Pratt Framer for their support.
